Important safety reminders for you and your family.
Staying safe in the surf means being prepared.
1. Learn the Beach Flag System
- Green Flag: Low hazard, calm conditions
- Yellow Flag: Medium hazard, moderate surf or currents
- Red Flag: High hazard, strong currents or surf – swimming not advised
- Double Red Flag: Water closed to the public
- Purple Flag: Dangerous marine life (jellyfish, stingrays, sharks, etc.)
2. Watch for Rip Currents

- Swim parallel to shore until you’re out of the current, then return to the beach.
- Always swim near a lifeguard tower for extra safety.

- Apply reef-safe sunscreen regularly.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Wear hats, sunglasses, and rash guards for extra protection.
4. Be Aware of Marine Life
- Shuffle your feet in shallow water to avoid stepping on stingrays.
- If stung by a jellyfish, seek help from a lifeguard station for treatment.
- Never touch or disturb wildlife.
5. Swim Responsibly
- Always swim with a buddy.
- Avoid alcohol before swimming.
