Caladesi Island is one of the few
remaining large undeveloped barrier islands on Florida's Gulf
Coast. The island is accessible by private boat. A
scheduled passenger ferry runs from nearby Honeymoon Island
State Recreation Area and from the City of Clearwater.
Overnight primitive boat camping/docking with marine pumpout
station is available. Reservations available online
through Reserve America.
Boaters can enjoy the 99 slip
bayside marina, or in calm weather, anchor offshore. Overnight
docking is permitted in the bayside marina, but boaters must
register before sundown.

Cayo Costa State Park

Cayo Costa offers primitive camping for those
wishing to set up tent camping. Access to the island is by Ferry
Service from several Charter Boat Services or by private boat.
Reservations are required on the ferry service. Call Tropic
Star of Pine Island at 239-283-0015. Visitors must
carry in all food and drinks as there are no facilities on the
island. All items must be taken off the island upon departure.
Cabins are available on Cayo Costa for $22.93
per night. Each cabin sleeps up to six people. Each cabin is
furnished with three bunk beds and a table. The cabins are very
primitive, do not have electricity or any other amenities. They
are centrally located to bathrooms and showers. There are grills
available for cooking. Each cabin is conveniently located to the
beach area and nature trails.

Ice is for sale at the ranger station. Bring plenty of
insect repellent and sunscreen. Food should be brought in an
animal proof containers.

Collier-Seminole State Park is a
Seasonal Camping Park. The park has two camping areas. One
area contains 19 sites located in a wooded area and is popular for
tents, vans, and popups. The other consists of 118 sites in an
area more suited for RV's and also includes tent sites. Some sites
have electricity and all sites have a picnic table and a grill.
Three bathhouses are located in the campground and are equipped
with hot and cold showers. One bathhouse has a washer and dryer
and another has an activity room with tables, chairs, brochure
rack, and other reading material. The park has a youth camping
area, a primitive camping area that is accessible from the park's
hiking trail, and another primitive camping area accessible by
canoe. The youth camp area can be reserved and the primitive camps
are first come first serve. Reservations available through Reserve

The park has 60 wooded campsites.
Twelve sites are designated tent camping only and located next to
the Estero River. All sites have electric, water, grill and table.
Pets are permitted in the campground overnight with current
vaccination papers and a wastewater dump station is available for
RV campers. A centrally located bathhouse has a utility area with
a washer, dryer and sinks. The community campfire circle is for
group use, seasonal interpretive programs and camper
get-togethers. A volleyball court is next to the campground. The
large picnic area has a nature trail, small playground, restroom,
many grills and tables. The Estero River borders the park and
flows into the Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. There is a boat
ramp and canoes are available to rent. The Koreshan Historic
Settlement is open daily with guided tours on weekends.

Lake Okeechobee/Okeechobee

Located at the center of Florida's heartland, Lake Okeechobee is
Florida's largest lake and the second largest freshwater lake in
the U.S. Ten Corps recreation areas are located along the 152-mile
waterway, which offers excellent boating, bass fishing, and
waterfowl hunting. This convenient commercial link with the
Florida coast also offers recreational boaters protected waters,
peaceful anchorages, and pleasant shore stops. Corps-managed
boat-in camping areas are available at St. Lucie Lock and the W.P.
Franklin Lock.

River section of the Okeechobee Waterway, Ortona Campground
provides the visitor with a taste of tranquil, serene country

is just 10 minutes from Stuart, Florida.

offers 9 RV/tent sites and 8 Cruiser sites with

Oscar Scherer State Park is a full
facility camping park with seasonal camping. Campsites are
available for tent or RV camping with complete hook-ups for
electric and water. Reservations available through Reserve

A separate camp area is available
for organized youth and adult groups. Tents only. No pets allowed.
Amenities include pavilion, campfire circle, restroom, and cold
water shower. No electric service available. Limited to 60 people.
Campfires are allowed in the
campground but only in the "ground grill" provided. Collecting of
firewood is not allowed, however campers can bring in their own
firewood or obtain it at the Ranger Station for a donation to the
parks' Citizen Support Organization the Friends of Oscar Scherer
Park, Inc. Campfires may be banned during extremely dry weather
conditions. Please, never leave campfires unattended and
extinguish them completely with water before vacating the site.
