The
Ochlockonee River offers perfect examples of the scenic natural
characteristics found along north Florida's Gulf coast. Visitors
have an excellent opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities
offered by land as well as by water in this 392-acre park.
Full Facility Camping
This
392-acre park has 30 campsites with electric and water hookups
available for reservation through Reserve America.
Fishing
The park is considered an excellent location for both canoeing
and fishing. Both fresh and saltwater species may be caught,
including largemouth bass, bream, catfish and speckled perch in
the fresh waters. Redfish and speckled trout are common in the
brackish water. A Florida freshwater fishing license is required
for all persons 16 years of age or older. A saltwater fishing
license is required for the taking of saltwater species.
Nature Trails
Nature trails are located along the river and throughout the
pine forest. During summer months, ranger-guided walks and
campfire programs are provided.
Wildlife
Because the park is nestled in scenic pine flatwoods, it is the
perfect area for nature studies. Small grass ponds, bayheads and
oak thickets provide a diversity of biological communities
especially suitable for wildlife. Animals such as deer, fox
squirrel, bobcat, gray fox and numerous species of birds are
commonly observed. Of special interest is the endangered
red-cockaded woodpecker, unusual in that it makes its nest
cavities in living, mature pine trees.
